Many of clients know that I have been an athlete for 22 years. But what you may not know is that going through childhood and teenage with no specific sports therapy to release tension on muscles and joint has put me through constant and painful challenges.
From meniscus damage on both knees which prevented me to go up and down the stairs or even walk when I was 13 years old, to unbelievable pain when I worked on my ankles to make them more flexible because they were hindering my performance.
And can you believe after all the pain the ankles were still very stiff and I painful when I try to work on them?
Not all athletes have this issues however
I believe coaches should acknowledge the individuality in each student and take appropriate action to avoid long term injuries that might affect day to day life. One such approach would be sports therapy for athletes.
After receiving the benefits other therapies which all did their job and helped a lot, I had the opportunity to try something else, a different sports massage therapy, for athletes, which has a different approach and result.
You know I do not believe in the magic pill or that quick fix and you know I am very sceptical about many, many things in this world.
Well…I found something very close to that magic pill or better yet he found me. About a year ago I was contacted by Ben Pianese from Massaggi, a massage therapist in London.
After my first sports therapy session with Ben Pianese I immediately felt better control over my knees and my arms felt really light.
My core felt stronger and I felt lighter on my feet and guess what, 2 days after when I had my Karate session my legs were flying around like never before, going well over the head of the tallest guy in the class. Even my colleagues noticed the change. The control I have after 8 years of break from Karate it’s fantastic. Let’s not speak about confidence and balance, great improvement.
Then after the second sports massage session I felt like my body was “de-stressing” (if that’s a word, if not I need to have a word to Oxford Dictionary), really releasing the tension.
Now I am also a runner and compete in Obstacle Races and I think Ben Pianese came to me in the right moment.
This year I will have my first Karate competitions after an 8 years break, I already signed up for the Bucharest Marathon and Spartan Races are around the corner. I believe that the few massage therapy session I have with Ben will make a difference in my performance.
I am really looking forward to every massage therapy session with Ben at his massage place. And probably the most important part is that after seeing Ben a few times you don’t need to spend thousands of pounds on physiotherapists and chiropractors.
