Massage Therapist Who Rewrites The Books Visits London!

Ross Emmett, founder of the Emmett Technique

Mr Ross Emmett, a former professional boxer, prison officer, and dog judge, began massaging his workmates’ backs, shoulders, and sciatica pain in Mt Isa, North Queensland, over 30 years ago. This led to his career as a therapist and teacher. He qualified as a massage therapy instructor in 1983 with the Queensland Association of Massage Therapists (QAMT) and as a senior instructor in Bowen therapy in 1997.

His system of therapy, the Emmett Technique, is the product of his work as a remedial and sports massage therapist. His method of achieving pain relief is via ‘neuromuscular release’, which involves reactivating nerve responses and restoring normal muscle movement.

The Emmett Technique Practitioners

The Emmett Technique is applied with either a light touch at two holding points simultaneously or one-directional moves over specific locations on the body. Practitioners of the Emmett Technique quickly correct body alignment problems, resulting in minimal client pain and therapist effort. It isn’t physiotherapy, massage, or Bowen therapy, but rather a unique form of treatment, which has earned him international attention as one of the rising stars in his field.

“I have trained all kinds of professionals from medical practitioners, doctors, chiropractors, physiotherapists, acupuncturists, massage therapists, Bowen therapists, and nurses”, he said. He is living his vision of making the course available to all remedial therapists who want it. His course has been endorsed by the Australian Association of Master Therapists and the Bowen Therapists of Australia and is covered by all health professional insurers in the UK.

Reviews Emmett Technique

Fellow Australian orthodontist Geoff Stanton ran the London marathon in 2007 using the Emmett Technique to relieve a leg problem. Dr Stanton attended the eight-hour EMM-Tech Short Course five weeks before attempting the 26-mile run. At the time, he feared that tight iliotibial bands in both legs would prevent him from training. In his training regimen, he stopped every 3 miles to stretch his legs and successfully completed the London Marathon with only one pause at the 21-mile mark to release the tight muscles.

Reset your body

Dr Stanton said he had learned “release points” for the head, neck, legs, and chest, which he expected would be handy for helping his four young children with aches and pains. Ross says that Dr Stanton’s experience illustrated the crux of this practice. “My job is to make people feel better,” he said.

Many admirers of the Emmett Technique say that the point of difference from other therapies is that clients can expect to see a reduction in pain or discomfort before they leave the appointment. Mr Ross Emmett says that relieving lower back pain typically requires a lot of work using conventional massage, but with his technique, it can be achieved in just a few minutes. “It’s short, sharp and to the point, and clients are referred on if it doesn’t work.

For athletes, it is a quick treatment, with rapid release and fast action, which means less time off the field. For frail individuals, babies, or those with restricted mobility, the therapy is gentle and less intrusive than other forms of massage. I first taught my technique in the UK in 2007, and look forward to returning to London in April 2012 to demonstrate it to massage therapists and others interested in extending their skills”.

“I’ve had my hamstring sports injury for the last 1-2 years, and I can say without hesitation that Ben Pianese’s Emmett techniques session was far more effective than any other sports massage therapy I’ve ever had, all this after only one session! – P.J. Web Analyst
